Coffee Lake processors are sold out as hot cakes. Because of the increased interest in new products, there was a deficit and, as a result, a noticeable rise in price of brand new Intel chips. Especially it concerns the six-core models Core i5-8600K, Core i7-8700 and Core i7-8700K – at the time of this article, the listed CPUs were actually taken for 28-40 thousand rubles in Moscow retail. Expensive, of course, and I completely agree with the opinion that there is no point in overpaying for a product that will become cheaper in a month or two. Around the chips Core i3 and Core i5 such an excitement is not observed.

At the same time, there is no point in recommending systems based on obsolete Kaby Lake processors (with the exception of the starting assembly), and therefore the November edition of the "Computer of the Month" again features assemblies based on the LGA1151 platform and "coffee" chips. I recommend that those readers who plan to build a system based on the Core i7-8700 or Core i7-8700K, purchase all the necessary components in advance (motherboards from the first day of sales are sold at regular prices) and wait for the processor prices to decrease.

For those who looked to us " for a light" for the first time, it will be useful to study the September issue which details all aspects of the selection of components for six assemblies: starting, basic , optimal, advanced, maximum and extreme. I do not see the point of chewing each and every one of the same things, therefore, in this release, we will mainly describe alternative assembly variants, as well as methods for reducing the cost of, or, conversely, improving systems.

The configurations of AMD and Intel, considered within the framework of the starting assembly, have not changed for several months already. After the release of processors Coffee Lake to use the Pentium G4600 generation Kaby Lake forcing despair. If you want to "painlessly" play all modern games, then it's better to take either a full quad-core Kaby Lake (for example, Core i5-7400), or buy Core i3-8100 (9,000 rubles). Only in both cases will have to pay well for such a modification of the assembly. And so any four-threaded Pentium (and Core i3 generations Haswell / Broadwell / Skylake / Kaby Lake) in games like Watch_Dogs 2 (that is, in "sandboxes", projects with a large open world) will cause noticeable eye hangs. Unpleasant drawdowns FPS can not be avoided in other modern projects, such as GTA V and Total War WARHAMMER.

The downside of the Pentium G4600 platform is that you will not be able to upgrade to the 6-core Core i5 or Core i7 of the Coffee Lake generation with no motherboard replacement. True, the use of any Core i7-7700 in the system will significantly accelerate it. If you compare starting assemblies, then the configuration of AMD, in my opinion, looks preferable. In January, when the boards based on the younger sets of logic (H310, H370 and B360 Express) are presented, the Intel startup will noticeably change, because the quad-core chips of the Ryzen 3 will already be resisted by the quad-core Core i3.

The assembly of AMD in comparison with last month did not change at all. In November, I again suggest taking the youngest quad-core Ryzen 3 1200 and an inexpensive motherboard based on the B350 chipset. Together with the boxed cooler, you can easily increase the frequency of this processor by 300-400 MHz without any problems. For a more serious overclocking I still recommend taking a high-quality payment and an effective cooler. If you do not plan to overclock anything, you can buy Ryzen 3 1300X instead of Ryzen 3 1200, and instead of B350-board you can use motherboard based on A320 logic set. The younger chipset for the AM4 platform does not allow overclocking the processor, but it supports high-frequency memory.

Speaking of memory. In the previous month, for the AMD start assembly, I offered one 8-gigabyte DDR4-2666 module. Now I advise you to take a simple Samsung DDR4-2400 fee of the same size. As practice shows, the Samsung Mxxxxxxxxxxxx-CRC modules operating at the effective frequency of 2133 and 2400 MHz are quietly accelerating to 2933 and even to 3066 MHz with increasing voltage and delays.

Only budget motherboards are recommended in assemblies, which basically have two DIMM sockets for installing RAM. That's why the initial configuration uses 8 GB of RAM in the form of a single board. Yes, the components will work in single-channel mode, but in the near future you can install the second exactly the same module without any difficulties. Pull with an upgrade of RAM I do not advise: first, RAM continues to grow in price; Secondly, 8 GB already is not always enough .

Some readers persistently suggest using quad-core Athlon X4 950 (4,000 rubles) in AMD's starting assembly. The processor is based on the slow (relative to Zen) Excavator architecture, does not have a third level cache, and is equipped with only eight lines of PCI Express 2.0. That is why to consider it as the main option there is neither sense nor desire. Even the variant with the obsolete six-core FX-6100 (4 500 rubles) looks more preferable in terms of performance.

Another option is to replace the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with a Radeon RX 560 4 GByte (9,000 rubles) video card. Save about 2-2.5 thousand rubles, but at the same time in games you lose 15-25% of FPS. The option to purchase such a video card can be considered if you entertain yourself with mostly undemanding games, such as Dota 2, Overwatch, CS: GO and other multi-user projects.

Alas, I do not see any more options to save within the starting build. Part of the components and so chosen by the simplest scheme: the most affordable devices, verified personally. Improvements to the AMD and Intel startup assemblies automatically lead us to consider the basic configurations.

In the previous issues of the "Computer of the Month", when Ryzen processors competed with Kaby Lake chips, I pointed to the fact that similarly priced AMD solutions are preferable in tasks related to content creation . It can be graphics rendering, image processing or cryptography. Intel systems, as a rule, showed better in games. With the release of the processors Coffee Lake, the situation changes somewhat, which is not surprising given the increase in the number of cores in the Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors.

If you are building a system based on the Coffee Lake processor in 2017, then in any case you will have to take a motherboard based on the Z370 Express chipset. The most inexpensive options at the time of writing this article cost 8-9 thousand rubles. Over time, when cheap solutions based on the H310 and B360 Express logic are available for sale, the six-core Core i5-8400 will definitely "settle" in the Intel base assembly. This year we focus on the Core i3-8100.

Pros for purchasing a motherboard based on the Z370 Express chipset, too. Over time, you can change the same Core i3-8100 to a chip with an unlocked multiplier. Alternatively, take the Core i3-8350K (14,500 rubles) and overclock it to 4.5-4.7 GHz. And you can also buy a set of high-frequency RAM.

The rubric has existed for a long time, and almost always within the framework of the basic assembly, configurations were proposed that allow you to play with a comfortable FPS in all modern games. That's why the system has 16 GB of RAM, a quad-core processor and a video card with 6+ GB of video memory. In my opinion, the build without SSD is quite viable, but the use of a fast drive in the PC with a volume of 120-128 GB significantly transforms the system – the operating system boots quickly. In addition, one or two of the most frequently started games can be written to the memory cells of the solid-state memory.

The option to increase the performance of the basic assembly of Intel is obvious: if you have an additional 6-7 thousand rubles, you can buy Core i5-8400 instead of Core i3-8100. Alternatively, buy Core i5-8600K (20,000 rubles), which, as the name implies, is equipped with an unlocked multiplier. Six-core Coffee Lake – "things" are very hot, so it's better not to save on CPU cooling.

Interestingly, in terms of performance, the Core i3-8100 is comparable to the Core i5-7500 generation of Kaby Lake. These chips have similar frequencies (3.6 GHz, only Core i3 does not support Turbo Boost), and the same volume of the third level cache – 6 MB. Plus, in architectural terms, there is no fundamental difference between Coffee Lake and Kaby Lake. Therefore, if you do not plan to upgrade the system in the next few years, you can save on the "processor-fee" bundle. In November, the Core i3-8100 together with the inexpensive Z370 motherboard will cost you 18 thousand rubles, and the Core i5-7500 together with the motherboard based on the H110 Express chipset will cost 16-17 thousand rubles. Saving is small, but it is. Instead of the Core i5-7500, you can always take the younger processors Core i5-7400 and Core i5-6400, which fill all computer stores.

The base assembly of AMD already traditionally rests on the Ryzen 5 1400 processor. This chip accelerates to 3.6-3.8 GHz, but for higher frequencies I recommend buying a better motherboard and a more efficient cooling system. For example, a board of the level ASUS ROG STRIX B350-F GAMING (9,000 rubles) will perfectly suit. If the processor and cooler allow, then this motherboard will not be a barrier to overclocking the CPU to 3.9-4.0 GHz.

In addition to overclocking, we can somewhat speed up the AMD system by purchasing instead of a DDR4-2400 memory set a 16 GB capacity set operating at an effective frequency of 3000-3200 MHz. You will have to pay about 2 000 rubles, and also make sure that this set of RAM will work correctly. For the AM4 platform, the update of the microcode AGESA has already been released, but so far users are experiencing compatibility problems when using DDR4-3000 and DDR4-3200 memory with motherboards for Ryzen processors. Advantageously, at a guaranteed high frequency of RAM, stable sets consist of two 8-gigabyte modules built on 8-gigabit Samsung second-generation chips (B-die).

Unfortunately, memory is becoming more and more expensive. That's why in the starting and basic assemblies are recommended cheap DDR4-2400 sets, which, nevertheless, are amenable to overclocking.

Already a month there are only NVIDIA video cards in the table, although earlier for the launch assembly we recommended a 4 GB version of the Radeon RX 570, and for the base one – 8 GB Radeon RX 580. Unfortunately, because of the mining boom that swept this in the summer on the whole planet, the price of accelerators AMD categorically does not want to fall. In November, 8-gigabyte Radeon RX 580 really take for 23-28 thousand rubles, according to Yandex.Market. Therefore, in the table there are only varieties of GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB, which cost 3-5 thousand rubles less.

You can save from 4 to 6 thousand rubles, if you take 3-gigabyte instead of 6-gigabyte version of GeForce GTX 1060. In games with such a large amount of video memory will be enough, the difference between these adapters will be scanty – around 5-7%. However, many modern projects lack even 4 GB of video memory . Therefore, the GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB already does not have a safety margin, in a year or two the video card will be useful only for games on average graphics quality settings. The same words are also relevant for 4-gigabyte versions of Radeon RX 570 and Radeon RX 580.

Начиная с оптимальной сборки, мы сталкиваемся с дефицитом процессоров Coffee Lake. В прошлый раз для конфигурации Intel я рекомендовал разгоняемый Core i5-8600K. Наивный чукотский юноша полагал, что на старте продаж этот чип будет стоить в районе 17 000 рублей. Как сказал бы один киногерой, я еще никогда так не ошибался. На момент написания статьи Core i5-8600K стоил в среднем 21 000 тысячу рублей, поэтому в ноябре приходится рекомендовать Core i5-8400 — его реально взять за 16 000 рублей. Конечно, если есть возможность, то лучше взять более продвинутый Core i5, а вообще я искренне надеюсь, что со временем в оптимальной сборке пропишется Core i7-8700. В любом случае уровня быстродействия Core i5-8400 вполне достаточно для обслуживания видеокарты калибра GeForce GTX 1070.

Именно GeForce GTX 1070 является визитной карточкой оптимальной сборки. Хочется разнообразия, но, к сожалению, пока в продаже можно найти только референсные версии Radeon RX Vega 56, и стоят они в среднем на 4-6 тысяч рублей больше. В разгоне «Вега» спокойно догоняет GeForce GTX 1080, правда, потребляет при этом достаточно много энергии. А еще 2 ноября в продажу поступила очередная новинка NVIDIA — GeForce GTX 1070 Ti. В плане быстродействия этот адаптер расположился аккурат между GeForce GTX 1070 и GeForce GTX 1080. Как видите, вариантов видеокарт для оптимальной сборки предостаточно. Во всех трех случаях вы получите систему, которая справится с современными играми в разрешении Full HD.

Что касается оптимальной сборки AMD, то по прошествии месяца она не изменилась. По-прежнему в системе используется шестиядерный Ryzen 5 1600X. Если вы планируете разгонять процессор, то есть смысл купить более дешевый чип — Ryzen 5 1600 (14 000 рублей). У него на 400 МГц ниже тактовая частота, но, как известно, большинство процессоров Ryzen разгоняются до 3,8-3,9 ГГц. Это правило касается всех сборок.

Платы, представленные в таблице, сдюжат разгон 4- и 6-ядерных Ryzen. О сравнительном тестировании этих устройств вы можете прочитать здесь. Для оверклокинга 8-ядерника лучше приобрести более качественную плату на базе логики B350 или X370. Потому что при разгоне, например, Ryzen 7 1700 энергопотребление ПК увеличивается практически вдвое. Следовательно, серьезно увеличивается нагрузка на конвертер питания материнской платы.

Варианты сэкономить или, наоборот, потратиться в рамках оптимальной сборки вполне очевидны. Никто не запрещает взять более качественные охлаждение и корпус. Также в оптимальной сборке применяется SSD в 2,5-дюймовом исполнении объемом 240-256 Гбайт. При желании вы всегда можете взять вместо такого накопителя еще более быстрый NVMe-накопитель: например, Samsung 960 EVO. Поверьте, вы сразу же почувствуете разницу в скорости между SSD с интерфейсом SATA и с PCI Express x4 3.0.
