We recently wrote about the laptop Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro which has one of the new low-watt Intel Core processors M. The processors from this family have a TDP of 4.5 watts – they were created for devices in which the use systems of active cooling is undesirable. Unfortunately, there is a small fan inside the Yoga, so we could not find out how the Intel Core M processor will work in its own element, that is, using only passive cooling. Now, with the release of the Dell Venue 11 Pro tablet, we have the opportunity.
Dell Venue 11 Pro (7140) looks like a regular Windows tablet. Almost the entire front side is occupied by a touch-screen IPS-screen with a diagonal of 10.8 inches and large frames – this is the case with most tablets.
On the "back" of the tablet is a removable plastic cover with a Soft-Touch coating, an 8-megapixel camera, a manufacturer's logo and a proud mention of the Intel Core processor M.
In our test lab came the version of Dell Venue 11 Pro with a metal detachable keyboard, inside of which an additional battery is installed. The progress of the buttons is quite normal, but the size of the keys is small – they will have to get used to. The dimensions of the touchpad are 90 × 50 mm, pressing the "right button" is handled without problems, but gestures do not work from the first time.
The keyboard does not have any additional connectors, and you can charge it only by unplugging it from the tablet. The Micro USB connector, to which the charger is connected, is located in the slot where the tablet should be inserted. The time to fully charge the keyboard is about 4-5 hours.
The weight, as well as the location of the center of gravity of the keyboard and tablet are chosen well. If you insert the tablet into the keyboard, the resulting design does not try to flip over like some other tablets and transformers.
On the left side of the tablet is a single USB 3.0 connector, a MicroHDMI port and a charger connector. Also on the left side there is a speaker grill, a volume key, a 3.5 mm audio jack for connecting a headset and a microphone.
On the right side of the tablet is the second speaker, the Power key and a single LED. Behind the plastic blank are the SIM card slots – yes, we have a 3G version of the Windows tablet – and microSD memory cards.
There is nothing remarkable on the top of the tablet, and on the bottom there is a proprietary connector intended for connecting the keyboard.

The Dell Venue 11 Pro (7140) has a dual core Intel Core M-5Y10 processor, one of the younger representatives of the Core M series. Its clock frequency is 800 MHz, and in Turbo Boost mode it can be increased to 2 GHz. This CPU supports Hyper Threading, and its L3 cache size is 4 MB.
The operational memory inside our experimental is frankly small, only 4 GB DDR3L-1600. If this volume does not seem enough, then there should be modifications on the market with 8 GB of memory.
There are 24 executive units in the Intel HD Graphics 5300 processor core, the maximum graphics frequency is 800 MHz.
For storage of data the solid-state drive of form factor M.2 is used is SanDisk SD6SP1M128G1012 with the volume of 128 GB. If this is not enough, then in a pair to it you can install a microSD memory card of the same e of masonry. That's only work it will be much slower than a full-fledged SSD. Yes, and to connect a solid-state drive using the SATA III bus, and not faster PCI Express 3.0.
The dual-band Adapter Intel Wireless-N 7265 (Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n, 2.4 and 5 GHz, 2 × 2) is responsible for supporting wireless networks. Also in the tablet there was a place for LTE modem Telit LN930.
The capacity of a battery consisting of two cells is 24 W · h (4980 mAh, 7.4 V – the very case when you should carefully look at the watt-hours: the voltage is lower than most laptops). In the removable tablet keyboard there is a second battery, but only the manufacturer for some reason did not want to indicate its capacity. The power of the Dell Venue 11 Pro power supply (7140) – 24 W (19.5 V, 1.2 A), with this unit you can charge other tablets and smartphones – it uses the usual USB Type A as the output connector.
At the time of this writing, we will have to pay approximately 66,000 rubles for the version of the tablet we are considering. The amount is quite impressive: for this money you can buy a laptop, which will be two to three times faster than this tablet. But it will not be so compact and quiet.
Typically, manufacturers of Windows tablets do not want anyone to climb inside their devices, so the vast majority of such tablets can only be disassembled in a service center or with an industrial hair dryer.
Fortunately, with Dell Venue 11 Pro (7140) things are different. In order to disassemble this tablet, you need to unscrew just one screw that is in the compartment for the SIM card and memory card. After that, you can carefully remove the back cover of the device.
The CPU cooling system looks solid – it was only half as much as its battery. However, no fans under the cover of the tablet were found, and this is the main thing.
