Intel Core M processors were announced almost a year ago at the Computex exhibition in June last year. They are based on the Broadwell architecture with a new 14 nm process technology. Their main destination is tablets and ultra-compact laptops.
Thanks to improved design standards, new processors were about 50% less than their low-cell counterparts from the Haswell family. The Core M heatpacket is 4.5 watts (with the possibility of increasing to 6 watts in some models), therefore, in the majority of cases, you can do without active cooling, as the developers of the new MacBook did.
The nominal clock speeds of the Core M processors range from 800 to 1200 MHz, and in Turbo Boost mode, they can increase to 2,900 MHz (only for Intel Core M-5Y71). Hyper Threading support is available for all Core M processors. The integrated graphics for all processors are the same – Intel HD Graphics 5300, there are 24 executive units inside it, and the maximum frequency of such video core is 900 MHz.
In the compact Intel Core M processors with a 4.5 W heat pack (in rare cases, 6 W), developers were able to fit two processing cores with clock speeds up to 2.9 GHz, support for Hyper Threading and even embedded graphics. In appearance, such a combination looks very appetizing – it's no surprise that Apple made a bet on these CPUs by installing them in the new MacBooks. However, today we will consider not Mac, but ultrabook with Windows – Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro.
The new "Yoga" remained true to the tradition of the series: the lid of the laptop, made (as well as the bottom) of aluminum, can still be opened almost 360 degrees, turning the laptop into a Windows tablet.
In the updated "Yoga" new loops appeared, visually similar to metal bracelets for watches. According to the manufacturer, these loops, assembled from 885 parts, allowed to reduce the weight of the laptop by 200 grams, and the thickness – by 3 mm.
This loop design looks great, but unfortunately, she had a couple of minuses . First, in the wide parts of the loops, between which there are gaps, the entire structure can rattling. Secondly, the new loops do not fully cover the cable that connects the screen to the motherboard – you can see it if you move the laptop to tablet mode. The gap in which the trail is visible is very thin, so it can only be damaged by a very sharp and thin object. To do this, will have to try very hard, but still the probability is not zero. In all other respects, Yoga still remained the same as it was from the very beginning – one of the best laptop transformers.
The maximum thickness of the laptop is 15 mm, of which about 5 mm on the screen. Weighs Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro slightly – 1,19 kg, which is very good for a 13-inch laptop.
The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro workspace is made of soft plastic with ornaments in the form of tiny dots. Touching such a work area is very pleasant, but with cleaning, problems may arise. At the time of writing the survey, it turned out that dirt accumulates on this surface very quickly, and dust particles, which – according to the law of meanness – necessarily fall into these tiny depressions, are very difficult to pull out.
Due to the small thickness of the new "Yoga", the keyboard buttons turned out slightly less than most notebooks, but you will not have to get used to it for a long time. However, the problem was more serious: a number of function keys are combined with digital ones, as in Acer Aspire S7 . Unfortunately, it will take time to get used to this layout too.
The keyboard of the new "Yoga" has a white highlight. Its color, like the brightness level, can not be changed.
The dimensions of the Yoga 3 Pro touchpad turned out to be quite common for the "trinas" – 90 × 60 mm. It was convenient to work with him, there were no problems with gestures or hidden keys under the touch surface.
On the left side of the laptop are two USB 2.0 and 3.0 connectors, Micro-HDMI and a memory card reader. The USB 2.0 port (it is made of ё of the plastic) is combined with the power connector, so it will not be available when charging the laptop. On the right end of the laptop is a second USB 3.0 port, a 3.5mm headset jack, and the main control keys that can be found on each tablet.
On the bottom of Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro there are only usual stickers and cracks for the speakers – there are no air vents here.
Judging by our description, it can be decided that the cooling system of the new "Yoga" has turned out to be passive: this circumstance is hinted at by the processor with a 4.5 W heat box, and the absence of ventilation holes on the notebook's case. However, this is not so: Yoga 3 Pro has an active cooling system, which consists of a tiny impeller, a copper heat pipe and a small radiator. The vent holes of the laptop are hidden on its back edge, behind the hinges. You can see them only when the laptop is in tablet mode.

As we already mentioned, the Ultrabook has an Intel Core M-5Y70 processor, executed on a 14-nm process technology. Its clock frequency is 1.1 GHz, and in Turbo Boost mode it can increase to 2.6 GHz. The L3 cache volume is 4 MB and the TDP is only 4.5 W.
All Yoga 3 Pro main memory is soldered on the board, and it's impossible to replace it yourself. The laptop has 8 GB of DDR3L-1600, working only in two-channel mode. This amount of memory should be enough for most tasks.
The Intel HD Graphics 5300 integrated in the processor includes 24 executive units, the maximum graphics frequency is 850 MHz.
We already wrote about the dimensions of Yoga 3 Pro – they turned out to be more than modest, so only one solid-state drive of M.2 format with 256 GB capacity is installed inside – SAMSUNG MZNTE256HMHP. For wireless communications, the Broadcomm BCM4352 adapter is responsible, which supports 2.4 and 5 GHz networks (802.11 a / b / g / n and even ac). Also supported is the Bluetooth protocol .
The capacity of a battery consisting of four cells is 44 Wh / h (5900 mAh, 7.6 V). The power of the power supply unit Yoga 3 Pro is 40 W (20 V, 2 A), which, even taking into account the heatpacket of the processor, seems even superfluous.
At this point, you could finish describing the technical characteristics of the laptop and go to the story of its price, if not for one important circumstance. The Yoga 3 Pro power supply has only one, the most common USB connector, to which the cable is connected. This means that the BP from the new "Yoga" can be used both for charging the hero of our article, and for powering the tablets or other gadgets – in this mode the maximum output voltage of the unit is limited to 5.2 V instead of 20 V needed for charging the "Yoga" .
At the time of this writing, the simplest, initial modification of the new Yoga 3 Pro costs about 90,000 rubles. This modification will install the Intel Core M-5Y70 processor, 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD-drive and a touch screen with a resolution of 3200 × 1800 pixels. A more advanced modification of Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro will cost about 100,000 rubles, and from the initial modification it will differ only in an SSD-drive, the capacity of which will increase to 512 GB.
The bottom of the laptop is fixed to 10 screws and removed without any problems. After dismantling it is perfectly clear that the battery occupies most of the internal space of the "Yogi."
The motherboard in Yoga 3 Pro is very compact – it is located on the top of the ultrabook. In the right corner of the motherboard there is a SSD-drive and a wireless communication module.
The processor and RAM are located in the central part of the board, and the CPU cooling system is in the upper left corner.
It consists of a copper heat pipe and a tiny SUNON EG40040S1-C010-S9A fan. We could not find the fan on the Internet, therefore the maximum number of its revolutions, like the air flow created by it, remained unknown.
