Monoblock – as much in this word, but as rarely it can be heard. True fans of high performance have long been studying the forums in search of the most suitable components and collect from them working and gaming stations. Heavy, large, which need to buy a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speaker system.
Buyers, constantly moving from point A to B, and then to B (can continue) and back and do not want to abandon high-performance components, choose gaming laptops with a diagonal of 15 inches or more. There are also Apple fans who prefer stationary PCs from the "apple " company, often for design and operating system OS X with all its pluses and minuses.
But who is ready to buy monoblocks on Windows? Obviously, this is at age people (according to our assumptions) from 40 and above, with money and do not want to understand the characteristics, choose separately the accessories and give preference to the familiar OS for many years. And, of course, the principle of "bought, plugged into a socket and run" was not canceled. And then there's no need to break eyes – the screen is all 27 inches, not some 15-17 with Full HD-resolution. All right!

The MSI AG270 is produced in a large number of different modifications. To us for the test, unfortunately, got a version that will not be delivered to the territory of Russia, but similar configurations – at a price of 140 thousand rubles – can still be found. However, they will not be equipped with SSD-drives, which can be installed independently.
The minimum price for a gaming monoblock MSI starts at 85,000 rubles for a version with a dual core Core i5 4210H, a discrete graphics core GeForce GTX 960M with 2 GB of dedicated memory and a screen with Full HD resolution. If you completely "strangle the toad", then by spending about 170-180 thousand rubles, the buyer will receive the most powerful modification of the AG270, equipped with a 512 GB SSD-drive, one of the most powerful graphics chips – GeForce GTX 980M, IPS WQHD screen and 16 GB random access memory. Let us consider in more detail the characteristics of the specimen we tested.
The monoblock uses a 4-generation Intel mobile processor with Haswell architecture, performed at 22 nm. Core i7-4720HQ, oddly enough (and in general it's very strange, after all already sold and used mobile Core with the core of the 6th generation), the CPU is quite new – was introduced at the end of January this year. This is a quad-core processor with a nominal frequency of 2.6 GHz and support for such important technologies as HyperThreading and TurboBoost.
The latter in automatic mode (depending on load and temperature) can raise the CPU frequency to 3.6 GHz with a single core, up to 3.5 GHz with a load of two cores and up to 3.4 GHz with 3-4 loaded Nuclei. The volume of the cache memory of the third level is 6 MB.
The processor is almost at the top of the list among the currently available Has Quadwell Mobile Quad Core CPU with a standard 47W thermal package. That is, there are more productive solutions, including with twice more powerful graphics. However, in the case of a gaming laptop, where the main GPU is a discrete adapter, there is practically no sense from the built-in adapter.
The southern bridge is a set of system logic HM87 Lynx Point.
In our monoblock was installed two modules Hynix DDR3-1600 (800 MHz) to 8 GB each, working in two-channel mode. The rated operating voltage is 1.35 V. The latencies (timings) set are very high, but in the case of mobile platforms this is almost always the case
The Intel HD Graphics 4600 GPU is the graphic solution, but we will not dwell on it in detail. After all, all the main work is done by a discrete adapter NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M with Maxwell architecture of the second generation – it is made in the form of MXM-card with 6 GB of GDDR5 memory on board. By the way, exactly the same adapter, but with half the amount of memory is used in the modifications with a Full HD display. This graphics adapter is currently one of the fastest mobile solutions.
The configuration that came to us uses a 27-inch IPS display with an unknown matrix model, a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels and a 16: 9 aspect ratio. As a protective surface is a hardened glass with a matte film on top of it.
You can connect two additional monitors via HDMI interface version 1.4 to the monoblock, or connect an additional signal source to display the image on the AG270 screen.
The storage system in our configuration consists of two Transcend TS128GMSA370 SSDs with a capacity of 128 GB each operating in a zero-level RAID array and a 3.5-inch HDD Seagate ST2000DM001-1ER164 with a capacity of 2 TB. In the first case, the connection is mSATA, the second one uses the standard SATA3 interface.
The RAID array from SSD is insanely fast and quite ample in volume. Although, if you use AG270 for a large number of games, then, knowing how much weigh after installation of modern games, you will often think about the fact that it would be better to have at least 256 GB drives installed here. And such version, by the way, in the assortment of MSI is present.
As for the HDD, it is also very fast for its class, but it has not earned a reputation as the most reliable one.
The system recovery partition is on a magnetic drive and occupies almost 16 GB. The remaining space on the hard disk is fully provided to the user.
Wireless connections Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n and Bluetooth 4.0 + HS provides Realtek RTL8723BE. As a gigabit network adapter, Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2200 is used.
The optical drive TSSTcorp, model SN-208FB is installed in the monoblock. And the audio path processes the Realtek ALC887 HDA codec.
The tablet computer is delivered in a large, colorfully decorated cardboard box in black. For easy carrying, there is a white plastic handle on top.
There are two stickers on one side of the package, for which you can find out the basic technical information on the configuration, serial number, weight, delivery kit, installed OS and production country (China).
In addition to the monoblock in the box, the following was found:
- external power supply;
- power cable;
- the keyboard with illumination;
- the mouse with illumination;
- Quick User's Guide for Quick Start of Use;
- the complete user's guide;
- certificate of component quality and system stability;
- Avenue with a list of features and advantages of the monoblock;
- CD-ROM with drivers, utilities and instructions in different languages;
- Prospect on the possibility of rapid charging of peripheral devices (Super Charging);
- book by the terms of the guarantee + warranty card inside.
The delivery set is beautiful, in a different way and can not be said. To get started with the AG270, everything is available, and on most questions can be answered by various brochures and two whole user manuals.
The design of the candy bar could be called simple and unremarkable, if not for three elements: a red strip at the bottom, a transparent acrylic insert with integrated rubber legs and a transparent stop-support.
These "designer delights" make you wonder what is there inside. But after the names of powerful components and the price of the device become known, there are questions "Why is it so expensive?", More precisely "Why such a money for such a case?". Speaking differently – one with another does not strongly converge. At least this is the opinion of the author and his circle of acquaintances, which, as we know, may not coincide with the opinion of the editorial staff but with the opinion of our readers and end users of the device.
The mounting plate to the body of the candy bar is made of glossy plastic. Another not very practical element, on which the great responsibility lies – to keep the heavy case, with which it copes wonderfully.
The stand itself has a rigid spring, and therefore tilt the candy bar is not so simple that it can be considered a plus solution. The maximum angle of inclination is about 35 degrees, the minimum is not less than 5-7. The final figure is far from complete, but in a different way for the stability of the AG270, no one would take responsibility.
On the right side of the case there are three blue status LEDs, four control keys (allow you to adjust the volume, select the source of the signal, get to the screen menu and walk through its sections) and the power button.
Just below there are two USB 3.0 ports, a power connector and a memory card reader. The main connectors for connection are in the back of the candy bar and are oriented backwards.
The drive for reading and writing CD / DVD is on the right side of the device. Quite a good place, if, of course, a candybar will not stand this side against the wall. On the other hand – when did you last use disks and how often does it happen?
A couple of stickers on the case of the device, we did not learn any new information.
Build quality is good – nothing creaks or dangles. Speaking about the quality of the processing elements of the case, you can note some "torn" edge of not only the back cover, but also the red frame of the case. Characteristic gaps are visible. We hope that all this is due solely to the fact that the candy bar has been exposed several times by us, as before.
It's quite easy to see the stuffing of MSI AG270. To do this, unscrew about 6 screws, remove the plastic cover. Under it is hidden a metal frame that protects the components of the system. The main casing is removed after applying some force and unscrewing a pair of screws.
Before the user appears a small motherboard, which housed the main components and cooling system, only slightly beyond the main zone.
The hard disk and CD / DVD drive are separate from each other in metal baskets. The first of them is placed in a basket and equipped with rubber shock absorbers, which reduces noise and vibration from the HDD.
Two SSDs are stacked on top of each other and installed in mSATA slots. Another (third!) Slot is located next to the Wi-Fi module and allows you to add a third drive. We hope that the exact same motherboard is used in the simplest versions of MSI AG270.
Two memory slots in the case of our sample are busy. In what form is the memory installed in other modifications and is it possible, accordingly, its simple upgrade (purchase of the second module of equal volume), we do not know.
The keyboard supplied is full-size, made with soft-touch plastic and looks very impressive. In the lower area for resting the wrists of the hands there is a highlighting logo in the form of a dragon. All letters and symbols on the keyboard are white. The main color of the backlight is also white.
But the choice of the user is offered six additional color options and three modes of brightness glow. All this is configured using the keyboard shortcut on the keyboard itself. Together with the illumination of the buttons, the logo is also changed.
The island-type keyboard itself is executed qualitatively, but because of soft-plastic is very quickly spoiled, and removing fingerprints is not so easy. In other words, it loses all its gloss in an hour or two after the start of use. Pressing the keys is very quiet – this is a plus. The depth of the keys is small, the degree of springing and tactile feedback are weak, and this, from the author's point of view (and no, he is not a fan of solid keyboards with full-sized mechanical large keys) is bad. For not-so-advanced players who love beautiful things, the keyboard from the bundle is completely suitable, but those who print a lot can remain unhappy.
But from the mouse of impressions is not so much, but the overall score is higher than that of the keyboard.
All secondary "rodent" buttons have a built-in red / blue (depending on the mode of operation) backlighting. It uses a familiar backlighting of the logo and additional areas with translucent plastic on both sides of the device, behind which are the LEDs. Pressing the two main keys are clear and sonorous, we had no complaints about the mouse's work.
The MSI AG270 has a 2 megapixel camera, without additional backlight / flash. The quality of the picture under good, bright lighting is quite bearable. More to add nothing.
