Unfortunately, in 2017 NVIDIA did not release a mobile analog of the desktop graphics card GeForce GTX 1080 Ti and therefore the most productive gaming laptops with 4K-displays are still equipped with two GPUs of the level GeForce GTX 1070 or GeForce GTX 1080. Laboratory 3DNews has tested several of these devices. So, this summer came out the review MSI GT73VR 7RE Titan SLI in which just a couple of GeForce GTX 1070. The novelty, which will be discussed later, in automotive terminology, is a kind of restyling version of this laptop. Let's see how much better the updated version called GT75VR 7RE Titan SLI became.

# Appearance and input devices

Externally, the MSI GT75VR 7RE Titan SLI strongly resembles the MSI GT73VR 7RE Titan SLI. The recognizable design of SCI-FI METALLIC has not gone away. The top cover of the notebook is made of brushed aluminum and decorated with decorative red stripes and a logo that is highlighted during the work of the laptop. Of the same metal is performed, including the area around the keyboard. The rest of the case is made of durable and practical matte plastic. The build quality was at the same high level. However, I did not expect anything else from the device for a quarter of a million rubles.

The lid opens approximately 130 degrees, so it is convenient to use the laptop and sitting at a high table, and placing the device, for example, on your lap. The hinges are tight, given that the MSI GT75VR 7RE Titan SLI is not a very heavy display, it is positioned quite clearly and does not hang around during active network battles.

The test hero became thicker (up to 58 mm) compared to the MSI GT73VR 7RE Titan SLI (49 mm). However, the engineers MSI went to this move specifically. In general, the port layout of the MSI GT75VR 7RE Titan SLI was successful. Especially considering that the laptop will be used mainly as a stationary PC.

The second noticeable difference between the MSI GT75VR 7RE Titan SLI from the MSI GT73VR 7RE Titan SLI is the use of an updated keyboard from the SteelSeries. Now the design uses a mechanic with a 3 mm button stroke and a trigger point of 1.5 mm. The manufacturer claims that, in comparison with other mechanical laptop keyboards, triggering is 25% faster. Well, the feeling of use I have developed exceptionally positive. Pressing is felt very clearly, click is made with a characteristic loud click. And I liked the laptop not only to play, but also to print the text. At the same time, I'm never a professional gamer, and that's why there was not much difference between this keyboard and the HID used in the MSI GT73VR 7RE Titan SLI. It was comfortable playing in both cases.

There are no complaints at all about the MSI GT75VR 7RE Titan SLI keyboard layout. All the basic gamer buttons are large, and are located in zones that are easily searched blindly. By the way, the Windows key is now on the left.

Of course, the keyboard MSI GT75VR 7RE Titan SLI is equipped with a backlight. There are three levels of brightness. In addition, each key glows with its own color, regardless of the color of the neighboring buttons. Such a scheme is called independent. You can customize the keyboard parameters, create additional keyboard shortcuts and adjust the backlighting in the SteelSeries Engine 3. As with the MSI GE63VR 7RF Raider 4K model, I especially liked the function of the separate highlighting of the function buttons. You press the Fn key and only the buttons that allow you to change something are highlighted: brightness, volume, touchpad status (on / off) and so on.

To the right of the Num Pad there are five more keys that activate the following functions:

  • Turning the device on and off.
  • The transition from discrete graphics to the integrated GPU processor.
  • Activation of the maximum speed of cooling fans.
  • Starting the selected program.
  • Download saved SteelSeries Engine 3 profiles for keyboard and touchpad.

The touchpad buttons are also highlighted. They are pressed very tightly, so not everyone will like it. There are no complaints about the touch panel itself.

The MSI GT75VR 7RE Titan SLI comes with a Full HD webcam with a frequency of 30 Hz, and this is one of the few gaming laptops with such a high-quality camera. The optics image is good enough even in a room with artificial lighting. Given that the streams have become an integral part of the gameplay, it can not but rejoice.

# Internal structure and upgrade possibilities

And I'm always attracted to MSI notebooks because all of them – even quite expensive models – are quite easy to understand. In order to get to the components MSI GT75VR 7RE Titan SLI, you just need to unscrew the five screws and carefully remove the plastic bottom entirely. All that remains is to clean the fans from dust. GeForce GTX 1070 graphics cards are made in the form of removable form factor motherboards MXM. The cooling system almost completely repeats the one used in the MSI GT73VR 7RE Titan SLI. The central processor is cooled by three heat pipes, a radiator and a fan located on the right side of the housing.
