Manufacturers of laptop-transformers have not yet come to a common understanding of how the actual transformation mechanism should look. Sometimes one and the same company uses different mechanisms: for example, Acer has like more familiar devices with loops that open up to 360 degrees, and more sophisticated devices – starting with the very incredible Aspire R7 something more humanlike like our hero today, the Acer Aspire R13. As with most transformers, the Acer Aspire R13 display not only allows you to work with this notebook as with a tablet, but also to adjust the geometry of the case to the current needs of the owner – depending on whether he is sitting at a table, going to the subway or lying on the sofa. A total of six basic display positions are available, not counting intermediate options.
In general, the display in this case, the manufacturer paid a lot of attention, which is expressed even in the technical description on the site Acer, where the lion's share of flattering words concerns it. Speech there goes also about high resolution – 2560 × 1440 points, and about a protective covering Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and about firm rotary mechanism Ezel Aero Hinge, and about many other things. In addition, the display has a multi-touch surface and Acer Active Pen pen to implement all the creative ideas of the owner. Let's try to figure out who and why all this diversity can come in handy.
The novelty comes in a beautifully designed box of very dense cardboard in black. Inside the box along with a neatly packaged laptop, the following accessories were found:
- power adapter with removable power cable;
- pen Acer Active Pen;
- short printed user manual in Russian.

The official website of the manufacturer at the time of writing this material included six different versions of the Acer Aspire R13 notebook, differing in processors, type and amount of RAM, integrated video core models, disk subsystem capacity, battery life, presence or absence of a pen and even a display resolution . But all modifications have the same transformable case with a keyboard, and also the processor type is ultra mobile, that is, the U-series with a lowered TDP index.
In the detailed specifications, instead of the generic name Acer Aspire R13, there are models starting for some reason with "Acer Aspire R7- …", and some were the same! There is a suspicion that someone simply has problems with the Russian-language version of the site, so we better focus not on the model number, but on the index listed there. The sample that came to us in the test lab had the index NX.MQQER.003. The other five modifications of this notebook differ by the last digit in the index. So when buying it is worth to be extremely attentive, and then you can get completely different than what was required.
The NX.MQQER.003 model is assembled on the Intel Haswell platform with a dual-core Intel Core i7-4510U processor with a base clock speed of 2.0 GHz, and in Turbo Boost mode it can increase to 3.1 GHz. The processor is produced on a 22-nanometer process technology. Its thermo package TDP is 15 W, and the cache volume of the third level is 4 MB. Among the modifications of the Acer Aspire R13 is a medium-sized version.
The laptop is equipped with the operational memory LPDDR3-1600 with a total capacity of 4 GB, working in two-channel mode. All chips are soldered directly on the motherboard and can not be replaced, it is also not possible to increase the available capacity.
As an graphics adapter in all versions of Acer Aspire R13 uses an integrated solution: Intel HD Graphics 5500 for Intel Broadwell platforms or Intel HD Graphics 4400 (GT2) for Intel Haswell platforms, as in our case. The graphics core operates at a clock speed of 200 to 1100 MHz. To connect an external monitor, the Acer Aspire R13 has a single HDMI video output. Well, the resolution of its own display from the Acer Aspire R13 can be 1920 × 1080 (Full HD) or 2560 × 1440 pixels (WQHD), as in our sample.
According to the official specification, the disk subsystem Acer Aspire R13 can be represented by SSD modules with a capacity of 128 or 256 GB. In our copy was installed the module Kingston RBU-SNS8100S3 / 256GD form factor M.2 with SATA 6 Gb / s with a capacity of 256 GB (actual capacity of 238.5 GB). By default, the disk space of the laptop is represented in one section. It should be noted that the Acer Aspire R13 has two M.2 slots, and only one of them is occupied by an SSD module, so there is room for increasing disk space, in contrast to RAM,
The laptop is equipped with a reader for flash cards format SD / SDHC. The audio system is represented by the widely distributed Realtek ALC283 module, which works with HD Audio. To connect the headphone and microphone to the laptop, a 3.5 mm jack is used. To output sound on the notebook itself, at the bottom of it, there are stereo speakers. Wired gigabit network from the Acer Aspire R13 without additional external devices can not be organized – there is no RJ-45 port. About the Bluetooth module in the official specification of the laptop does not say anything, but it is combined with the adapter Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222, which has a PCI Express interface. Unfortunately, detailed information about this device could not be found, and therefore it was not possible to find out the version of Bluetooth.
A rechargeable Li-ion battery is built into the case. Its passport base capacity is 48 Wh (3220 mAh, 15.2 V), and the minimum is 46 Wh (3090 mAh, 15.2 V). The actual capacity at full charge was 46.6 Wh / h. To charge the battery, as well as to operate the laptop from the network, a power adapter with an output power of 45 W (2.37 A, 19 V) is used.
The notebook is made in a plastic case of a dark gray color with a characteristic "metallic" texture. The top cover has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 glass coating, and all other surfaces are made of matt. The lower part of the body is made of plastic with a rubberized coating that increases the friction between the laptop and the surface on which it is located, although there are four rubber feet at the laptop.
